A trail of offence
Matthew 17:24-27
1. How did Jesus sometimes try to avoid offending people?
It is because the people around him do not know of Him as the Son of God. Thus Jesus told Peter to catch a fish and get the temple tax from the mouth of the fish.
Mark 10:17-27
2. How did Jesus go straight for the man's jugular?
When the man asked Jesus how to inherit eternal life since he has followed the commandments, Jesus replied directly, "One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me."
This is because Jesus knows how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! And the disciples upon hearing were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, "Who then can be saved?" But Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible."
