Psalms 42:1-11; Psalms 43:1-5
1. Who was the psalmist encouraging?
The psalmist was encouraging himself that at times God seems to be not present in his life, he reminded himself to put his hope on the Lord. Though he is oppressed, he will still praise and thank God.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
2. Who was doing the encouraging?
God.
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
This is meant to be a blog where I penn down the further study of my daily devotion using Selwyn's material: Everyday with Jesus.
Being Real in the Psalms

Anger, fear, envy, despair, shame … How many of these emotions have you experienced? And would you admit this, to others or to God?
In this issue, Selwyn looks at the so-called ‘uncomfortable psalms’, those which express deep hurt and anguish. Recognising that these psalms have been included in God’s Word, we can conclude that we need not deny we feel certain emotions.
Instead, we are called to acknowledge every emotion and be entirely open before God. It is only as we ‘become real’ with Him that we experience more of His 'realness' – freedom, peace, transformation.
