The Baptist's dilemma
Mark 6:1-3
1. What caused Jesus' neighbours to stumble?
When Jesus taught in the synagogue of his own hometown, many hearing Him were astonished, saying, "Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?" So they were offended at Him.
John 1:43-46
2. What caused Nathanael to stumble?
Philip told Nathanael that they have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?"
The hard teaching that came from someone they know before stumbled the people.
