Does Jesus offend you?
John 6:61-70; John 2:15-17
1. Why did Jesus hurt and offend people?
When Jesus realized that the temple has been changed into a marketplace, He made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!"
Many people were offended in other occasions for they cannot accept that fact that Jesus was God. Out of carnality, they cannot accept that "the Spirit gives life, the flesh counts for nothing" as Jesus said. No one comes to the Father through the Son.
2. Why did Peter not desert Jesus?
Many of Jesus' disciples turned back and no longer followed him. "You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."
